BD4QoL: Moving Forward with New Insights

CSS has recently completed both patient enrolment and follow-up within the BD4QoL project, exploring how digital tools can help monitor and support the quality of life of head and neck cancer survivors. Reaching this milestone was important for our team, as it marked the conclusion of a long and meaningful five-year journey shared with our patients.

Throughout the study, many participants engaged enthusiastically with the app, telling us how it helped them feel more connected, motivated, and supported between clinical visits. Seeing patients use the tool to follow their progresses, stay active, or simply feel “less alone” has been one of the most rewarding aspects of this experience for the involved researchers.

Clinicians showed strong interest, with several asking whether similar solutions can be extended to other patient groups. Their curiosity – and the many questions raised from patients and families even though not directly involved in the study – highlights just how valuable this type of digital support can be in everyday care.

As BD4QoL now moves toward its final phase, we hope to carry forward the lessons learned and explore ways to make these digital approaches available to a broader community. The trust, enthusiasm, and openness shown by our patients and colleagues reminds us that innovation in healthcare can truly matter.
