BD4QoL Italian final dissemination event

On November 6, 2025, a dissemination event organised in the context of the European project “Big Data Models and Intelligent Tools for Quality of Life Monitoring and Participatory Empowerment of Head and Neck Cancer Survivors” (BD4QoL), funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 programme and coordinated by the University of Milan, took place at Palazzo Città di Lombardia in Milan and online.

BD4QoL aims to improve the quality of life of patients who have successfully completed treatment for head and neck cancer, by enabling timely and personalised interventions through the use of secure, privacy-compliant mobile and wearable devices.

The event was organised by Regione Lombardia, ARIA S.p.A., and Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale Tumori di Milano, under the patronage of the University of Milan and the Lombardy Life Sciences Cluster. A total of 70 participants attended (38 people online and 32 in person), including clinicians, solution providers, patients’ associations, the scientific and research community, policymakers, third sector representatives, and project partners.

The initiative aimed to present the project’s main achievements and was structured into three thematic sessions:

  • The first session introduced the project strategy, highlighting the importance of quality-of-life data and its integration with clinical patient data
  • The second session focused on the BD4QoL platform, illustrating its functionalities
  • Finally, the third session presented the clinical trial and the results achieved, emphasizing how the app and chatbot developed by the project represent key tools for monitoring and communicating post-treatment symptoms, thereby improving the patient experience.

The event concluded with a panel discussion involving representatives from different stakeholder groups, focusing on next steps and how to leverage the results generated by the project. In particular, the debate addressed BD4QoL’s legacy and explored ways to capitalise on the results and technology developed for the benefit of patients and clinicians. The discussion highlighted the need to strengthen collaboration among industry, research and institutions, as well as to identify the best approaches to foster adoption of the developed solution and define the framework for its effective implementation, supporting both the work of clinicians and patients’ wellbeing.
